Adjusting Deckel Governor on Yanmar Engines

Please read these instructions to prevent damage to your engine and/or fuel injection pump

Place speed control lever in the wide open throttle position
Turn connecting screw (5) clockwise until the slot in the upper end is parallel
with the governor lever and the punch mark is facing the cylinder block.

Using the slot provided, turn the fuel injection pump regulator spindle (3) clockwise
until it stops. Use light pressure or damage to the fuel injection pump may occur.

With the regulating spindle closed, tighten the throttle lever fastening screw (2). fig3.bmp
Note: Tighten without moving the throttle lever. After tightening the screw, tighten the locknut (1).
Rotate the connecting screw 90° counterclockwise so its slot is perpendicular to the governor lever. fig4.bmp
Holding the connecting screw in this position, tighten the locknut. fig5.bmp
NOTE: After adjustment, perform the following:
1. If necessary, bleed all air from the fuel system.
2. Place speed control lever in the wide open throttle position, actuate the decompression lever and turn the engine. The sound of injection should be heard.
3. Place the speed control lever in stop position.
4. Again turn the engine. This time the sound of injection should NOT be heard.
If the pump is still injecting at this time it is likely the engine will over-rev. Do not attemp to start the engine. Perform governor adjustment procedure over.
